Travertine, unlike marble and limestone, does not fall under the metamorphic rock category. Travertine is formed in hot springs and the holes within the stone are caused by carbon dioxide evasion. The holes and cavities are noted as the key characteristic of this stone, and are often filled with synthetic resins or cements.
It is most commonly found in earth tones ranging from white and pale ivory to rich shades of red and brown, or sometimes silver and reds. This stone has unique features that no other stone can offer. It is nearly impervious to temperature fluctuations, and does not trap heat as much in comparison to other stones, this makes travertine the perfect material to use for outdoor areas. Travertine’s distinctive design, along with the possible different finishes available, also makes it ideal for creating feature walls, wall cladding, and even vanity tops.
